What I Was Going To Do

Have you ever had a plan that changed? You decided something, made a commitment, chose it fully and then ... everything shifted?

That's life, and there is very little we can do about it which ... feels like being completely out of control for some people. But what if we could turn that out-of-control feeling to something powerFULL? What if we could make that feeling the rocket fuel which we live on? What if ...

Picture the scene ... you make a plan, life happens, your plans shift, you're not sure what to do next but ... instead of freaking out even for a second, you trust yourself enough to know that the change happening has been given to you and you have the exact tools you need to turn that change into an opportunity. This ability to adapt fast is a serious superpower and anyone ... yes anyone ... can cultivate it. All it takes is ... doing it.

Now I know that seems simplified, but we only balk at simplicity because we've been taught that complicated is better, or more worthy of talking about! It sounds like you are way better than you are when you say it took 10 years of hard slog to get the success you wanted, rather than it only taking you a few months. Or that's what society has conditioned us to believe. What if that wasn't true?

If you could do something brilliant in 4 months or in 10 years which would you choose if quality and ethics, integrity and commitment weren't in question? I would do it in 4 months because ... why not? Life is not infinite for us here on this earth so why do we feel the need to make a plan, stick to it like glue, freak the fu&k out of it doesn't happen the way we said it would because we are married to it like Gollum was to his ring, and everything comes crashing down?

And there may be underlying conditions you have deep inside you that make you feel that doing something fast and good for the same price as something slow and good isn't ok. I would invite you to chuck that sh!t in the fu^k it bucket. And its not always about price, but it is most often about cost. What will it cost you to do what you want to do a different way, or what will it cost you to change what you are doing so completely that everyone around you will wonder what the hell you're at? And of course ... it will cost you your belief that people will think less of you because you've changed course, because you said you were going to do x but now you've changed to y, and they aren't ready to move with you. Good news ... they don't all have to. In fact, no one has to. But that is another cost ... will you shift, pivot, adapt and change even if no one moves with you? Can you trust that everything will work out?

And here's where the sticky part can come up. Everyone rushes to ask the only 'wrong' question in that moment ... HOW? How will it all work out? How will I make it work? How will I figure it out? And all the other how's that inevitably come with it. The how is the killer of speed and forward momentum. I love likening this to the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indiana Jones is tasked with finding the Holy Grail and faces a challenge where he has to trust that a path will appear. He has to leap across a seemingly empty chasm, trusting that a bridge will materialize beneath him. This is one of the "trials" he must pass to find the Grail. Are you willing to trust in the trials that may come up to meet you along your journey as you shift direction because life happened? It's the best exercise in trust there is. To nod your head and take a step without knowing where you're stepping but deciding the road will rise up to meet you every step you take. There was no 'how' in Indiana Jones' mind that day, there was only stepping his foot out into the great unknown and thinking ... 'oh sh!t', then feeling the stone beneath his foot ... that one action gave him the confidence to do it again and again until he crossed. And that is the secret ... your first step will always give you the confidence to take the next and then 'how' becomes irrelevant because you are doing the how in real time.

So ... if you could do what you want to do now, change what you want to change, pivot like it was the easiest thing in the world and have it all happen for you ... what would you do?

NOW GO DO IT ... just because you can.

No one rules you.

No one is your master.

Other peoples opinions and norms never have to be yours.

And don't give even one second of your time to what people will think about you ... they'll think it anyway so you might as well just go for it.

Have your own back, trust your own self, and let's see what you'd do ... if you could!

xoxo

Ciara
