How do you decide what book to write first?

How do you decide what book to write next?

What should you focus on?

Where is your creative juice flowing?

Is poetry where it's at right now?

Yes ... that's what I'll do, I have poems in me waiting to be unleashed. So, off I go writing and the poems flow.

It's such an awesome buzz when I write poetry, it comes so easily and sometimes, I will begin writing 4 or 5 at the same time because ideas will be popping off and each one has a specific reason to be created. I then write as much as I can in each poem until I run dry and at that point I know the poem may need to be set aside until it's ready to be finished. Some poems go from beginning to end and it's all done in minutes. Some days or months. It's all good, I am ready whenever the moment strikes to go back to them and make them complete.

I wrote one about celebrating your birthday the other day and it was so beautiful and apt and was done almost as soon as I began writing. I also started writing 5 other poems that day, one very deep one that will take some time to complete, and 4 others that just need a little finesse. While writing the poems I felt like I was in a lovely space creatively to write some more of my book but ... the moment I opened the doc ... the mood went and I decided to leave it and come back to it.

In my world, creativity can't and shouldn't be forced, it's too wild and free to tie down to a timeline or a clock so I go with the flow in my writing. At the same time, a deadline is a deadline so I allow the deadline to be what it is and trust that everything will work out perfectly, it usually does!

I see a lot of people put rules on their writing, rules on how it should be done, when it should be done, where it should be done, what's right and what's wrong, that isn't how I roll, and I don't teach that to the people who come to me either. I want to support you to let the true creative genius in you, the real writer in you to come up and out, and then I show you how to deliver it in a way that your readers will know it's you from the minute they read the first sentence. That has nothing to do with rules, and everything to do with that wild freedom that lives inside you and has a real desire to be given a space to play.
